1921 Depot Hack, 1923 Roadster, 1925 Coupe

Marshall acquired his first Model T, the 1923 Model T roadster in 2006. He had been introduced to Ts not long before by an uncle who encouraged him to try his own 26 runabout. Being an accomplished boat motor mechanic, and having recently quit the goat raising business, Marshall was intrigued by the challenges of both driving and maintaining such a "primitive yet functional" piece of transportation equipment and decided to acquire one for himself. The fact that prices were most reasonable did not hurt. Before not too very long, he found one the '23 in New York through e-bay and was delighted when he won the auction.

When the 1923 arrived in San Angelo, neither he nor the vehicle hauler knew how to get it started so they had to manhandle into the work shop. It was in great shape and before long, Marshall had the hang of it. The following year, his grown daughter happened to see a banner advertizing the first ever San Antonio Ford Model T Show at the Texas Transportation Museum and inquired if her dad could participate. Of course we said yes, and Marshall got to kill two birds with one stone - hang out with other Model T enthusiasts, and see his grandsons at the same time. A heck of a deal!

Since then Marshall has added another three Ts to his collection, including a 1911 Speedster project car - see images below. Prior to this he had challenged his two grandsons, then aged 11 and 7, to reassemble his "new" 1925 Coupe which was delivered in parts, during a visit to Grandpas. They accomplished the task, under Marshall's careful supervision, in just three days. What a first drive it was for all of them! While there are opportunities to drive his T in San Angelo, Marshall enjoys the fellowship of TFOT members, who "bleed Model Ts," and we are always delighted to have in our midst such a friendly and accomplished fellow T aficionado. Diane is a wonderful person in her own right. An accomplished photographer, many of the pictures you see on this site, especially those in front of the Alamo, were taken by her.

Creation of a 1911 Ford Model T Torpedo Speedster

In 2011 Marshall completed a major project to create a 2 seat Torpedo Speedster from a 1911 chassis and engine he acquired for the purpose. Most Model T race cars originated this way, as project cars built from otherwise abandoned chassis and engines. As you can see in the following pictures, such projects are not for the faint of heart but this one turned out so well, Marshall won the "Best Model T" at the 2011 "Texas T Party" which was held in Bastrop that year. With almost 100 Model Ts to choose from, he participants, who come from all over Texas, decided this car, finished just hours before the event, was the best of the best.
